Circumcision
The circumcision of adolescent boys has a long religious and social tradition in Kenya. It is said to strengthen the bond with God and symbolize the transition from a "boy" to a "man". At the same time, it is medically argued that the risk of certain infections is reduced.
Since Jiamini cannot approve of the hygienic conditions and the values conveyed by the family circumcisions in the villages, as well as the church offers, we offer the boys at Jiamini their own program on this.
So the German and Kenyan teams decided on a compromise in which we preserve Kenyan tradition while preventing negative influences and complying with hygiene standards.
